Pre-College Studies

The Pre-College Studies program offers several opportunities for students including Adult Basic Education (ABE), General Education Development (GED), and English Language Acquisition (ELA) courses. Students enrolled for ABE and GED are enrolled into language arts and/or math courses with the goal of raising their competency levels up to high school Level. ELA students are enrolled into unique courses covering reading/writing and listening/speaking and students are placed by level of competency in each category.

To enroll, a student must:

  • be at least 16 years old,
  • not currently be enrolled in another high school program,
  • provide proof of legal residency,
  • provide scores from College assessment test (high school graduates only), and
  • attend an orientation class.

For additional information and related resources, visit the College Prep Courses webpage and/or call MCC Connect.

English Language Acquisition for Adults (ELA)

ELA courses are designed for students whose native language is not English. These courses lead to improved skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Depending on test scores, students will be enrolled in beginning, intermediate, or advanced courses. After completing each course, a student will be tested to determine if they are prepared to move to the next level.

If a student is returning after an absence of more than 90 days, the orientation must be retaken.

ELA courses are offered at the Bullhead City and Lake Havasu City campuses as well as online. For additional information and related resources, visit the College Prep Courses webpage and/or call MCC Connect.

Adult Basic Education (ABE) and General Education Development (GED®)

ABE courses are designed for students who have a high school diploma or GED, and need more intensive academic preparation for college. GED courses are designed for students who need to complete a high school diploma. The courses in these programs lead to improved skills in reading, language arts, and math. ABE and GED courses are offered at each campus during both day and evening hours.

Diagnostic testing is taken during the orientation and appropriate courses/levels are assigned.

For additional information and related resources, visit the College Prep Courses webpage, GED webpage, and/or call MCC Connect.
