EMS 222 - Emergency Medical Technician


Prerequisite:
  • 18 years of age at completion of the program.
  • Appropriate score on assessment test or successful completion of  
  • Completed Application Packet and acceptance into program.
  • Students must also complete a physical, drug screening and background check prior to acceptance to the program.  Student must also have proof of immunizations outlined in the application Packet. 

 

Introductory course for the student who aspires to become a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician or NREMT. Student learning will focus on human anatomy and physiology, disease process, initial assessment and patient stabilization, proper use of equipment such as automatic external defibrillators, blood glucose monitors, and airway adjuncts as well as legal issues, scope of practice, extrication, documentation, communication, and ambulance protocols. A total of 12 hours of clinical experience will be scheduled in an Emergency Department to provide direct hands-on experience with a variety of patients. Additionally, 12 hours of emergency vehicular experience will be required. This course is designed to meet all State and National requirements and follows the current National Standard Curriculum and Arizona State Department of Health Services-EMS Division State statutes to prepare in testing for the EMT Level via the National Registry Written Exam.
