Nursing - LPN to RN Track, AAS (PNRND)

The Associate of Applied Science in Nursing - LPN to RN Track is designed to transition licensed practical nurses into registered nurse careers in two semesters. Students who successfully complete the program will be eligible to take the national licensure examination for registered nurses. This program is approved by the Arizona State Board of Nursing and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Note: A majority of students will be required to travel to Las Vegas, Nevada, for a portion of their clinical experience. Students may be required to attend mandatory training/orientation at various clinical sites or the Nursing Department laboratory before the official opening of the summer session. Requirements for Graduation: Passing all core nursing courses with a “C” grade or better and an 85% predictability of passing the NCLEX. For a course to be eligible for transfer, the student must receive a “C” or better. Acceptance of a transfer course is determined by the receiving institution. Prior to admission, students will undergo a general background check (Pre-Check) and must obtain a DPS Finger Print Clearance Card as required by the clinical facility. NUR 137 is for those students who were not part of the PN Step-out Certificate program.

MAT 121 or higher-level math course; however, the recommended math is either MAT 142 or MAT 151 for those students who plan on earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Beginning fall 2016, the required math will be MAT 142 or MAT 151 in order to be considered for admittance into the RN Nursing program. Credits: (3-4)

BIO 181 - General Biology I (Majors) with Lab Credits: (4)
Note: One of the above 200 level BIO courses may be used to meet the Biology Competency Exam, BIO 100, or BIO 181 requirement.

In addition the applicant must:

Be a graduate of an approved/accredited practical nursing program.
Provide a copy of current LPN license* to gain credit for Nursing I and Nursing II.
Have one year of experience as a practicing LPN in good standing.
If the applicant has been inactive in nursing for five years or more, the applicant must show evidence of successful completion of a refresher course within the past year.
Achieve an acceptable score on the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS).
Undergo a general background check (Pre-Check) as required by the clinical facility.
