A group meeting.

This degree program is designed to prepare students for paraprofessional work in the chemical dependency treatment field with course work in substance use disorders, psychopharmacology, ethics, documentation and interviewing, co-occurring disorders, family systems, relapse prevention, and clinical strategies for treating substance use disorders. The AAS in Chemical Dependency Studies can also afford many options for employment in any field requiring knowledge of substance use, such as psychology, social work, criminal justice, or any occupational field in which one works with people.

With this coursework, students will earn an AAS in Chemical Dependency Studies and therefore meet the educational requirements necessary to apply for licensure as a Substance Abuse Technician (LSAT) through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners (AZBBHE). For more information regarding the Chemical Dependency Studies, AAS, see the Chemical Dependency Studies webpage.

Beginning Nov. 1, 2015, the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners will only accept an Associate of Arts degree in Chemical Dependency Studies. Those earning an Associate of Applied Science degree in Chemical Dependency Studies need to apply prior to that date to be considered for licensure.
