Pathway to Substance Abuse Counseling (PSAC.AA)

The Pathway to Substance Abuse Counseling consists of courses required within the Substance Abuse Counseling program and additional coursework to meet a Liberal Arts Associate of Arts degree. Please refer to the Substance Abuse Counseling, AA (SAC.AA)  degree for program-specific courses.

To ensure your success, students interested in the SAC degree must contact the SAC instructor prior to registering. This initiates the working relationship emphasized in the self-paced courses within the SAC program, providing a new approach to education.

Note: Bold blue font indicates courses (or course options) which are required within the Substance Abuse Counseling, AA program.

General Education Requirements: 35-40


A. Freshman Composition: 6

B. Mathematics: 3-4

Choose one course from the following:

C. Arts and Humanities: 6

Choose two courses with different prefixes from the following:

D. Social and Behavioral Sciences: 6

E. Physical and Biological Sciences: 8-10

Choose two courses from the following:

F. Options: 6-7

and Choose 1 course from Section C, E or the following:

*Note: PHI 205  is recommended for Substance Abuse Counseling

Elective Options: 27


After consulting with an advisor, choose 27 transferable* credits from the Course Equivalency Guide (CEG) excluding courses already used for the AGEC - A. Please choose the Mohave Community College link. 

*A transferable course is defined as an MCC course that transfers to all three Arizona state universities (Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, and University of Arizona). 

Additional course requirement for the Substance Abuse Counseling Program, choose one course from the following:
