The CDA® national credentialing program is a professional development opportunity for early educators working in a variety of settings with children ages birth to 5 years old and their families to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and abilities in the early childhood education field. This three step program is designed to assess and credential early childhood education professionals using multiple sources of evidence, including an exam, observation, and a professional portfolio. By earning a CDA credential an educator demonstrates a commitment to career advancement and professionalism.

Individuals seeking The Child Development Association certificate complete nine 1 credit hour courses listed below as the first step in a three step process to earn this credential. These courses can be converted to three 3 credit hour courses that are needed to complete an associates degree in Early Childhood Education.

Note: The CDA credential is not issued by Mohave Community College and must be applied for and paid for separately from this program. Candidates work with a CDA PD Specialist to complete stages 2 and 3. The PD Specialist is responsible for completing the CDA Verification Visit® with the candidate. The PD Specialist reviews the candidate’s documentation, observes the candidate working with children, and conducts a reflective dialogue with the candidate. At the end of the visit, the PD Specialist electronically submits the candidate’s scores to the Council via the Scoring Tool in the PDS Portal.

For information on finding a CDA PD specialist in your area contact Early Childhood Education Associates at ecedassociates.com
