The Associate of Arts in Elementary Education provides the foundation coursework for future teachers in elementary education. Students wishing to pursue careers as middle school teachers have two options. In the first option, a student can complete an Associate of Arts in Elementary and Middle School Teacher Education and then transfer to a university education program to seek elementary certification for grades K-8 and an endorsement in a content area. In the second option, a student can complete an Associate of Arts in Secondary Teacher Education and then transfer to a university to complete certification for grades 7-12 and content courses for a major and/or minor. Note: For a course to be eligible for transfer, the student must receive a “C” or better. Acceptance of a transfer course is determined by the receiving institution.

Content Area Coursework: 12-15
After consulting with the transfer institution and a student services specialist, choose 12-15 credits in a content area, excluding courses already taken for the AGEC-A.
Content Emphasis Areas:History and Social Studies Content Area:
- Choose 12 credits from any combination of the following prefixes: ANT, HIS, POS, and GHY.
Humanities Content Area:
- Choose 12 credits from any combination of the following prefixes: ART, ENG, HUM, MUS, and THE.
Language and Cultural Diversity Content Area:
- Choose 12 credits from any combination of the following prefixes: ASL and SPA.
Math K-6 Focus Content Area:
Science Content Area:
- Choose 12 credits from any combination of the following prefixes: AST, BIO, CHM, ENV, GHY, GLG, and PHY.
Total Degree Credits: 63-67
