Medical Assistant Certificate (MDAC)

The medical assistant is an integral member of the health care delivery team, qualified by education and experience to perform administrative, clinical, and laboratory roles. The medical assistant often acts as a liaison between the doctor and the patient and is of vital importance to the success of the medical practice. The Medical Assistant certificate prepares the student to take the national certification exam. The American Medical Technologists (AMT) issues national certification and maintains a registry of its certificate holders. This certification requires a minimum of 900 clock hours (or equivalent) of training in Medical Assistant skills (including a clinical externship). A completed application must be submitted for admission to the medical assistant programs. You can obtain the application online, at any MCC campus, from an advisor, or at the medical assistant department. 

Requirements for Graduation

  • Anatomy and Physiology course must be completed with a “Cor better
  • No D or F grades in any courses required for the program of study and a cumulative G.P.A. 2.5.
  • Completion of all field of study courses with a “Cor better.

Note: For a course to be eligible for transfer, the student must receive a “C” or better. Acceptance of a transfer course is determined by the receiving institution. 

NOTES:

  • BIO 201 and BIO 202 can be substituted for BIO 160 or HES 129.
  • Students who took HES 129 prior to Fall 2021 can graduate with 3 credits for HES 129.
  • Students who took MEA 103 prior to Fall 2021 can graduate with 1 credit for MEA 103.
  • Students who took MEA 257 prior to Fall 2021 can graduate with 5 credits for MEA 257.
