Medical Billing and Coding Certificate (INS.CT)

The Medical Billing and Coding Certificate is designed to prepare students for an essential role in the healthcare field, processing claims and insurance reimbursement.  After completion, students will be able to sit for a national certification exam, preparing them for the workforce. A completed application must be submitted to the program director for admission to the Medical Billing and Coding program. You can obtain the application online at the Medical Billing and Coding webpage. 

Requirements for Graduation

  • Anatomy and Physiology course must be completed with a “Cor better
  • No D or F grades in any courses required for the program of study and a cumulative G.P.A. 2.5.
  • Completion of all field of study courses with a “Cor better.

Note: For a course to be eligible for transfer, the student must receive a “C” or better. Acceptance of a transfer course is determined by the receiving institution. 

Note: BIO 201 and BIO 202 can be substituted for BIO 160 or HES 129. 

 

Program Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to: 

1. Utilize medical terminology and anatomy and physiology for accurate coding. (2,3,5,6)

2. Apply current guidelines to assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes. (3,5,6)

3. Apply ethical principles and professional standards in medical coding and billing practices. (2,3,4,5)

4. Utilize healthcare technology systems for reimbursement purposes. (3,5,6)
