Medical Assistant Certificate (MDA.CT)

The medical assistant is an integral member of the health care delivery team, qualified by education and experience to perform administrative, clinical, and laboratory roles. The medical assistant often acts as a liaison between the doctor and the patient and is of vital importance to the success of the medical practice. The Medical Assistant certificate prepares the student to take the highly sought after and recognized CMA (AAMA) certification. For more information regarding the Medical Assistant certificate see the Medical Assistant webpage

A completed application must be submitted for admission to the medical assistant programs. You can obtain the application online, at any MCC campus, from an advisor, or at the medical assistant department. 

Requirements for Graduation

  • Anatomy and Physiology course must be completed with a “Cor better
  • No D or F grades in any courses required for the program of study and a cumulative G.P.A. 2.5.
  • Completion of all field of study courses with a “Cor better.

Note: For a course to be eligible for transfer, the student must receive a “C” or better. Acceptance of a transfer course is determined by the receiving institution. 

 

Program Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to: 

1. Demonstrate competent psychomotor and affective domain performance of administrative and clinical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice. (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)

2. Apply technological methods to retrieve, process, and communicate information. (2, 3, 5, 6)

3. Apply critical thinking skills in performing patient assessment and care. (2, 3, 5, 6)

4. Conduct oneself to the professional standards in the healthcare setting. (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)

5. Recognize and appreciate diversity, historical viewpoints, and the global perspective. (1, 2, 4)

6. Employ effective positive communication techniques in interacting appropriately with peers, patients, their support persons, and members of the health care delivery system. (2, 4, 5, 6)

7. Participate as a member of the healthcare team by providing support and working in close harmony with other healthcare team members. (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
