Fire Science - Fire Officer Certificate (FOC)

The Fire Science - Fire Officer Certification program is designed to prepare a student for the role of a fire officer in the fire or emergency services. Meeting the general knowledge required for the position of Fire Captain, Training officer, Fire Investigator. In conjection with the Fire Science AAS degree program, allows the student to complete the Fire Officer program prior to completing the requirments for a degree.

Required Prequisites - Completed the firefighter certification and proof of employment in the fire service

 

Program Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the program students will be able to:

  1. Apply critical thinking skills and lateral thinking, including hands-on skills via a Fire Academy. (2, 3, 5, 6)
  2. Gather, process, and present information across multiple Fire Science disciplines. (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
  3. Utilize communication and interpersonal relationships effectively with other firefighters and instructors. (2, 3, 4, 5, 6)
  4. Demonstrate, at all times, a safe, efficient environment that promotes team work to complete tasks. (2,3,4,6)
  5. Utilize mathematics and scientific methods to classify different methods of fire prevention, investigation and fire protection systems. (3, 5, 6)

 

Recommended Program Pathway


First Semester: 6 credits


Second Semester: 6 credits


Third Semester: 9 credits


Total Certificate Credits: 21
