The Associate of Arts with an emphasis in Elementary Education program provides the foundation coursework for future teachers in elementary education. Students wishing to pursue a career as a middle school teacher have two options. In the first option, students can complete an Associate of Arts in Elementary and Middle School Teacher Education and then transfer to a university’s education program to seek elementary certification for grades K-8 and an endorsement in their content area. The second option is to complete the Associate of Arts Degree for Secondary Teacher Education and then transfer to a university to complete certification for grades 7-12 and content courses for a major and/or minor. (See Associate of Arts Degree in Secondary Teacher Education). Students intending to transfer to a four year baccalaureate program are urged to contact an advisor at the transfer institution for content area recommendations. For a list of partner institutions, please consult the Transfer Options section of the MCC catalog.
