PAR 101 - Legal Research and Writing I


Covers introductory principles and procedures for conducting legal research and techniques for basic legal writing. Includes developing an understanding of the sources of U.S. law; distinguishing between primary and secondary sources of law; researching case law, constitutions, statutes, and administrative law; properly citing various sources of law; preparing a basic case brief; and finding and using secondary authority. Students will be introduced to various types of legal writing, such as the preparation of research reports, basic letter writing, and legal memorandums.

Credits: 3
Prerequisite: Successful completion of ENG 101   with a “C” or higher
Notes: Students seeking the AAS Paralegal degree must also have an appropriate score on placement exam or successful completion of   or higher.
