Behavioral Health Aide (BHA.CT)

A practical program that prepares individuals to work in direct patient care services, assist in developing and implementing treatment plans, administer medications, and perform related administrative functions, all under the supervision of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and other mental health care professionals. Courses provide instruction in mental health theory, applied psychopathology, patient communication and management, crisis intervention, psychotropic medication, mental health treatment procedures, substance abuse, record-keeping, clinical administrative skills, and applicable standards and regulations. The focus of this program is on didactic knowledge, hands-on learning experiences, and practical training for students with no previous behavioral health, nursing assistant, caregiver, or medical assistant training or work experience to gain employment in Behavioral Health or Human Service organizations.

 

Program Student Learning Outcomes: 
Upon completion of the program students will be able to: 

  1. Identify the ethical and professional standards that guide mental health professionals in their roles and responsibilities across diverse populations. (3,4,6)
  2. Assess the bio-psycho-social needs of diverse client populations to determine effective client-centered interventions. (1,3,4,5,6)
  3.  Apply client-centered interventions that foster positive change, growth, self-care, and resilience. (1,2,3,4,5,6)
  4. Use technology and information systems to document and manage cases within a multidisciplinary team while protecting both client and practitioner. (2,3,5,6)
