PHB 101 - Basic Phlebotomy Techniques This course provides students with the foundational knowledge and hands-on skills required for the safe, accurate, and professional collection of blood specimens. Instruction emphasizes best practices in phlebotomy, including the use of Vacutainer systems, syringe and butterfly collection methods, heel sticks, and capillary puncture techniques. Students develop proficiency through guided practice using simulation equipment and supervised peer-to-peer collections in a controlled classroom setting.
To qualify for externship placement, students are required to enroll in PHB-102 – Phlebotomy Practicum in the following semester.
Credits: 4 Prerequisite: HES 113 , HES 129 , or BIO 160 , or BIO 201 and BIO 202 combined
Corequisite: MEA 100
