Human Services, BA (HUS.BA)

Human services professionals provide an array of services for persons with mental illness, victims of crime, individuals and families, older individuals, housing, crisis, and the prevention and treatment of addiction. Human services professionals help clients become more self-sufficient.This program provides students with a foundation in theories and the application of principles in assessing human needs in a variety of settings. With a solid foundation of knowledge and skills in Human Services, graduates have the opportunity to pursue a broad array of careers where they can match their desire to help with the needs of our community.

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services is appropriate for students who are interested in working as social and service assistants in providing client services in a wide array of fields to support individuals and families, including but not limited to Social Work, Mental Health, Addiction, Criminal Justice, Rehabilitation, or Public Health.

 

Program Student Learning Outcomes: 
Upon completion of the program students will be able to:

  1. Apply ethical principles and professional standards in human services practice, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse populations. (1,3,4,6)
  2. Analyze complex social issues and human needs using critical thinking skills to develop effective client-centered intervention strategies and solutions. (3,4)
  3. Utilize client-centered intervention strategies and solutions to promote positive change and growth in various human services contexts.
  4. Utilize appropriate technology and information systems to enhance service delivery, maintain client records, and support evidence-based practice in human services. (5, 6)
  5. Evaluate public health programs and apply strategies for health promotion and wellness in communities. (3, 5)
