Dental Hygiene, AAS (DAED)


The Associate of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene prepares the student for employment as a dental hygienist. Graduates of this two-year program will have the knowledge and skills necessary to take the national and state licensing examinations for Dental Hygiene. This program is designed for students to complete in a two-year period following the completion of the general education requirements. Students wishing to apply for admission to the Dental Hygiene Program must complete the following courses prior to admission, although they may be enrolled in and complete the courses during the spring semester in which they are applying to the program. Note: Students must adhere to the prescribed program if they are to complete the program and become eligible to take the exams. The dental hygiene courses may not transfer to another two-or-four-year college. 

The Dental Hygiene program is located on the Bullhead City Campus in Bullhead City.

Admission Prerequisites

The Dental Hygiene program at MCC is highly selective; only 18 students are accepted each fall. All General Education coursework must be completed with a grade point average of 2.8 or above and a grade of “C” or higher in all courses. Science courses must have been taken within the last 10 years. Students must complete an application specific to the Dental Hygiene Program and have their acceptance into the program confirmed prior to enrolling in any dental hygiene coursework. Program information and application procedures are posted on the Dental Hygiene website. Accepted students must complete program health, immunization, and background certifications prior beginning dental hygiene coursework. The application deadline is March 1.

Program Requirements

Students must maintain a valid American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification throughout the program.  Students must maintain program health, immunization and background certifications while completing dental hygiene coursework.

A course substitution of DAE 106  for DEH 106  will be accepted for dental hygiene students who have successfully completed the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) exam.

Requirements for Graduation: Passing all core dental hygiene courses with a “C” grade or better. Note: For a course to be eligible for transfer, the student must receive a “C” or better. Acceptance of a transfer course is determined by the receiving institution.
