The Associate of Applied Science in Cybersecurity and Network Support is intended for students who plan to work in technology support and security services. The course work emphasizes computer repair, network troubleshooting, and cybersecurity. Students who have completed the Google IT Certification may transfer into this degree as Prior Learning Assessment credit for CIS 153 Networking Essentials and CIS 156 Network Security and Penetration Testing. Students wishing to transfer to four-year institutions will have courses applicable to various career fields in cybersecurity, systems administration, and information systems management. Note: For a course to be eligible for transfer, the student must receive a “C” or better. Acceptance of a transfer course is determined by the receiving institution.
Program Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
1. Perform computer hardware troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance, and apply fundamental software concepts and troubleshooting techniques.(3, 5, 6)
2. Design, code, test, and debug programs using programming languages, applying appropriate programming principles and data structures. (3, 6)
3. Configure, secure, and troubleshoot local area networks (LANs) by determining appropriate network topologies, addressing schemes, and routing protocols. (3, 5, 6)
4. Implement and manage network security measures, including cybersecurity administration, risk mitigation, penetration testing, and identifying common security threats and vulnerabilities. (3, 4, 5, 6)
5. Demonstrate proficiency in system administration tasks. (3, 6)
6. Articulate verbal and written technical information clearly and concisely for technical and non-technical audiences. (2)
7. Apply project management best practices throughout the project lifecycle. (2, 3)
8. Demonstrate practical, hands-on experience in an IT work environment, applying learned skills and knowledge. (2, 4, 6)
