Mohave College’s general education philosophy is rooted in the principle that a broadly educated global citizen is essential for a thriving society. Through a comprehensive curriculum, general education cultivates critical thinking, effective communication, curiosity, societal awareness, and a functional understanding of various perspectives. It empowers students by providing opportunities for well-rounded intellectual growth as well as the development of foundational knowledge and adaptable skills, so students can prepare themselves to excel in their careers, pursue advanced studies, engage in lifelong learning, and contribute meaningfully to local and global communities.
In conjunction with upper-level coursework students complete to fulfill their major requirements, lower-level general education coursework provides a holistic academic experience that fosters both depth and breadth of knowledge. This holistic experience ensures Mohave graduates emerge as informed and engaged citizens capable of responsible participation in the democratic process, as flexible thinkers capable of navigating the complexities of the modern world, and as professionals who possess the knowledge and habits of mind necessary for lifelong success.

Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC)
The Arizona public community colleges and three state universities have established a unified structure for a general education core curriculum known as the Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC). This curriculum consists of 32 to 35 semester units of lower-division general education coursework designed to prepare students for transfer to a university. All elective courses must be transferable as elective credit or better to the intended university.
Mohave College currently offers three AGEC certificates:
Approved AGEC courses fulfill lower-division general education requirements at any Arizona community college or university. Students must complete course prerequisites, major requirements, and upper-division requirements as specified by each university.
Important Notes:
- A grade of “C” or better is required for a course to be eligible for transfer.
- Acceptance of transfer courses is at the discretion of the receiving institution.
- AGEC Certificates of Completion do not lead to a diploma but will be annotated on a student’s Mohave College transcript.
As per the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) Policy 2-210, the three AGECs will be consolidated into one redesigned Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC.CC) , set to be implemented across all Arizona community colleges by Fall 2026. Mohave College has started this implementation. Mohave College awards the AGEC certificate upon successful completion of designated courses, which is clearly noted in the catalog.
Associate of Applied Science (AAS)

A minimum block of 15 credit hours of lower-division general education coursework must be completed. This block of courses represents only the general education portion of an AAS degree. See the specific program of study for total credit hour requirements. Note that the AAS is not a transfer degree program; however, many of the individual courses listed in the core requirements may transfer to any state of Arizona community college or state of Arizona university. For more information see the AAS General Education Core Requirements page.
Note: For a course to be eligible for transfer, the student must receive a “C” or better. Acceptance of a transfer course is determined by the receiving institution.
