Basic Automotive Technology Certificate (ATB.CT)

The Basic Automotive Technology Certificate prepares the students for employment as automobile service technicians and mechanics. Students will develop specific skills in basic brakes, electrical, engines, steering, and suspension systems. Automotive service repair technicians are employed by automobile dealerships and independent auto repair facilities. Students completing this certificate will be prepared to take the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Automobile and Light Truck Certification Tests for brakes, engines, steering, and suspension. ASE is a national certification program for automotive repair and service professionals. The Automotive Service Technology Program is located on the Bullhead City Campus in Bullhead City with limited course offerings occurring in Kingman.

 

Program Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to: 

1. Communicate using industry-specific terminology. (2)

2. Use industry-recognized resources to research basic automotive systems, including engines, brakes, steering, and suspension. (3, 5)

3. Perform diagnosis on engine, brake, steering, and suspension automotive systems. (3, 5, 6)

4. Display a professional attitude and appearance while interacting with people. (1, 3)

5. Perform appropriate and correct basic repair and/or maintenance on vehicles being services. (3, 6)

6. Implement safety procedures while using industry-specific tools and equipment. (3, 6)

7. Safely handle and dispose of hazardous materials and waste produced by vehicles. (3, 4, 6)
