The Associate of Science in Chemistry prepares students for transfer to a university Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Students wishing to transfer to four-year institutions will have the academic foundation applicable to various career fields such as research, environmental and medical analysis and testing, consulting, and many other roles in private industry and government organizations. Note: For a course to be eligible for transfer, the student must receive a “C” or better. Acceptance of a transfer course is determined by the receiving institution.
Program Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the program students will be able to:
- Utilize critical thinking skills and problem solving skills, including the scientific method and methods of scientific conversion in everyday life (3, 4, 5, 6).
- Demonstrate mastery of the fundamental concepts of both inorganic and organic chemistry, including the chemical laws of nature, solutions, acids and bases, kinetics, equilibrium, and thermochemistry, functional groups, reactions, syntheses and mechanisms (2, 3, 4, 5, 6).
- Prepare, present, and analyze chemical data in any scientific format (3, 5, 6).
- Perform chemical experiments in a safe and scientific manner, using proper scientific and laboratory safety procedures (3, 5, 6).
- Fulfill general education requirements for further education in Chemistry related disciplines at University level (Analytical chemist, Chemical engineer, Healthcare scientist, Clinical biochemistry, Forensic scientist, Pharmacologist, Toxicologist, Environmental consultant, Higher education lecturer, Patent attorney, Research Scientist, etc.) (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).

Recommended Program Pathway
First Semester: 14 credits
- MAT 151 - College Algebra Credits: 4
- CHM 151 - General Chemistry I with Lab Credits: 4
- Any course within the Written and Oral category of the AGEC Credits: 3
- Any course within the Institutions of Americas category of the AGEC or FYE 100 Credits: 3
