The Associate of Arts in Mathematics prepares students for transfer to a university Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics. Students wishing to transfer to four-year institutions will have the academic foundation applicable to various career fields such as accountant, actuary, cost estimator, computer scientist, civil engineer, and economist. Note: For a course to be eligible for transfer, the student must receive a “C” or better. Acceptance of a transfer course is determined by the receiving institution.
Program Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the program students will be able to:
- Use a variety of models to define, represent, and solve mathematical problems. (3, 5)
- Apply mathematical problem-solving strategies to problems from within and outside mathematics at the necessary level to transfer to a 4-year institution to achieve a degree in a STEM field. (3, 5)
- Utilize two- and three-dimensional geometric models, properties of figures, analytic geometry, vectors, and trigonometry to represent and solve problems. (3, 5)
- Articulate mathematical relationships by representing, analyzing, and using functions. (3, 5)
- Use critical thinking and problem solving skills to analyze and assess the validity of mathematical information. (3, 5)

Recommended Program Pathway
First Semester: 10 credits
- Any course within the Written and Oral Communications category of the AGEC Credits: 3
- MAT 151 - College Algebra Credits: 4
- Any course within the Institutions of Americas category of the AGEC or FYE 100 Credits: 3
